Our Science lesson with Miss Lambert

How we touched it and what happened:
We mixed the Space Goo and it looked like runny slime in the bowl. We put some in our hands and squeezed it tightly. It felt hard like a brick! When we opened our hands and stopped squeezing, the Goo went all runny and dripped through our fingers like it was melting.
It went hard as a brick when you tried to squeeze it (Taine)
It went runny and slimy in your hand when you release the pressure (Moneck and Jasmine)
It felt icky (Jasmine)
When you first touch it, it feels gooey but once you get used to it it is fun! (Roisin)
when you pick it up and then let it go it goes all slushy (Shannon)
When you squeeze it really hard it goes all solid and when you relax your hand it turns in to a liquid (Maxine)
All the particles are squeezed up together (Bethany)
It is both a liquid and a solid because it can act like both(Caleb)
How and why:
The Goo is made up of millions of tiny corn flour and water particles. When we squeezed the Goo tightly, the particles locked together and made the Goo act like a solid. Releasing the pressure of our hand lets the particles spread out so they can move around like liquid. So that’s why it looks like it’s melting!
When you are really rough and put lots of pressure on the Goo the particles lock up and then spread out when you give them room to move and relax. We tried to punch the Goo and it went rock hard! Our hand sunk in when we just rested it lightly on the top, hardly moving at all.
Imagine that you were stuck in a big pool of Space Goo and you have to move through it to get out... would it be better to move really quickly or really slowly? What do you think?
You make it out of cornflour and when you add water it can turn out really hard (jenna)
It has particles in it (marewa)
When all the particles are together it feels like a solid because you have put a lot of pressure on it. When you let it go in your hand the particles can spread out and it goes runny (roisin)
it looks like yucky goo (Kai)
It goes as hard as rock when you punch it really hard. it goes all runny and gooey when you let it relax (lizzie)
Looks like vomit (rinaldo)
it looks as green as slime (max)
it's as green as the bright green grass (lizzie)
I learnt/felt:
I learnt when you mix things together it can change (Jasmine)
I felt really excited to make space goo (moneck)
I felt excited when I touched it it felt like a slimy alien (tayla)
I learnt that mixing things together can make all kinds of things (jenna)
I felt like it would take me forever to touch the goo (Logan)
I was excited about it. I learnt that it's a solid and it's a liquid (Jaxon)
I felt ticklish when I felt it (Bethany).
