Check out Beth's persuasive writing!

I love homework

I think we should have homework. Here are some reasons why:  Firstly it helps your brain so you can learn better at school.  Secondly if you do really good homework you may get awarded with something, for example a certificate.  Last of all you could get better at your maths and your teacher can see you climbing up that basic facts ladder.  I hope you agree with me now that you should start doing more homework.

Jenna's Creative Writing

Check out Jenna's story about a cyclone that she did for homework. She used lots of interesting language features in her writing!

Cyclone
From my bedroom window, I can see rain falling as hard as a stone; people cold and wet, wrapped in blankets and coats but still cold; hail bouncing like a ball and crashing on the road, making people slip over; iron garage roofs blowing off; stones flying up and breaking windows, rolling along the road faster than the cars; trees as tall as a sky tower waving madly and branches crashing off; I can hear the wind whistling like a washing machine, making coconut trees fall down; stones clicking against the windows; thunder loud and scary like an evil demon. Lightning destroying people with its fire. Scary, like being chased by a crocodile.

Writing about Winter

We have been learning how to add language features to our writing to make it sound more interesting. We know how to use similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia. We have been writing about winter. Check out what Angus and Ollie wrote today!

Everything is white and cold in winter.  Only on the hills its like the clouds are falling from the sky. And I think I’m an ice cube when I first step outside because... it is freezing in the winter, yes it is freezing in the winter.  It is so cold that when we step into the snow all that I  can hear is a slurp slurp slurp.
 Angus

Winter is a place where the ground is covered in a white blanket.  “So cold, so cold!” people say. Everyone has got their fire going or their heater.  Everywhere people are wearing gumboots and people are staying in bed.  No one wants to hop out of bed. So when it is winer you’d better get warm.

Onomatopoeia Sentences

Today we learnt how to write using the language feature: onopmatopoeia. It is called onomatopoeia when the sound of a word is the same as its meaning.

Here are some great onomatopoeia sentences that we thought of today:

* The whoosh of the windmills whirling wind (Thomas)
* The thump of the judge's hammer (Ethan)
* The squeal of a really surprised mouse (Kaci)
* The patter of a little mouse scattering across the ground (Caitlin)
* The squelch of a big blob of paint (Emerson)
* The squelch of runny mud between my toes (Brodie)
* The patter of rain on the roof (Campbell)

Can you think of any more? Post a comment!

Our Goals for Term Two

We have just set our goals for term two.  Here are some examples:

This term I want to get better at writing more in my draft book. I am going to achieve my goal by writing at home instead of playing. (Emerson)

This term I want to get better at my basic facts and to get up to step 30 or 31.  I am going to achieve my goal by going on mathletics and practising with my Auntie (Brodie)

This term I want to get better at running more laps around the track.  I am going to pace myself and take my time running. (Kaci)
